Quality and International Standards - Frequently Asked Questions

What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is a management system standard that provides a general model for formalizing and improving processes within an organization. Organizations can become certified to ISO 9001 by independent registrars.

Is ISO 9001 only for manufacturers?
No, it is for any organization: service, manufacturing, non-profit, government. The standard provides a generic model that can be applied to any enterprise.

My company doesn’t want to become ISO 9001 certified. What else can you do for us?
We can help you with nearly every aspect of company operations: customer feedback, problem solving, metrics, development of procedures, error proofing, and many other topics.

Do you have industry experience?
Yes, all of our staff worked in industry before joining Georgia Tech. We aren’t professors or academics. We all have a practical, no-nonsense approach to providing assistance.

What is your general philosophy toward assisting organizations?
Our philosophy is to provide organizations with tools and guidance, and empower them to control their own destiny. We don’t come in and conduct hands-on fixes where we take ownership of the project. Ownership should reside with people from within the organization.
