Martha Schoonmaker serves as the manager of marketing and professional development for the Enterprise Innovation Institute and course director of Georgia Tech's Basic Economic Development Course, now in its 40th year. In this role, she is responsible for the design and implementation of continuing education courses targeted at individuals in the economic development field and the marketing of industry courses as well as the other marketing activities of the Enterprise Innovation Institute.

Prior to her experience with Georgia Tech, Schoonmaker worked with Arthur Andersen as an economic development consultant and with Oglethorpe Power Corporation, now known as Georgia EMC, as a business development officer. Schoonmaker also served as the vice president of economic development with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

Schoonmaker became a Certified Economic Developer in 1989 and has served in various professional organizations, including the Metropolitan Atlanta Private Industry Council, the Advisory Board of the Commercial Real Estate Women of Atlanta and as the former president of the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA). She is past state director and chair of membership/professional development with the Southern Economic Development Council.

Schoonmaker received her bachelor's degree in political science from Transylvania University. In addition to completing some graduate coursework in public administration from Memphis State, she also attended the Basic Economic Development Course at North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma's Economic Development Institute.
